DJ, The Tow Doctor:

Welcome one and all. You are listening to Tow Professional Podcast. Remember this is your podcast. It's for the pros that have a need to know, that are on the go. This is a special edition. I want all of you to remember. This is the true voice of the towing and recovery industry. I'm DJ Harrington, better known as the Tow Doctor, and the real host of the program is a good friend of the industry, the president and publisher of Tow Professional Magazine, my dear friend Darian Weaver. Darian, how are you this beautiful day?

Darian:

Man, DJ, I am great. It is a beautiful day, I tell you. I just wish I was doing this from the patio, but I let Jeff know I'll do it from the office. We'll try to be professional here. Didn't want to carry the laptop down there and sit out there with the birds tweeting, but it is gorgeous and I'm excited, man.

Darian:

We've got again Jeff Bimson on with Warrior Winch and let me tell you he's president of Warrior Winches. He makes an unbelievable product and I tell you I not only just took his word on it, we've put the products on my Bronco, on a 22 Badlands Bronco I have as a test mule Badlands Bronco I have as a test mule. And we've used the Samurai winch. We've used the newest winch, the Gladiator, and let me tell you it's a phenomenal product. I didn't just take his word on it, I put it out there and trail tested it and we cleared some trails off with it, pulled some big trees out of the way so we could make way, and we've got some great photos and footage coming that we're going to share. But, uh, happy to have them on today, DJ, and it's going to be great for our listeners yeah I.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

I started off by saying this is a special edition because at the Florida Tow show, Warrior Winch was definitely the talk of the show because of the quality, the product and the pricing here, and it is so every one of our listeners should look into this and give us a holler.

Darian:

Yeah, I tell you, DJ. The first thing I want to do is want to ask Jeff to tell us just a little bit about his background, about Warrior Winch and about the products he's bringing to the market, and then we'll expand from there. So again, good afternoon, Jeff. Glad to have you on today. We'll turn it over to you this morning, this afternoon.

Jeff:

Good afternoon, good morning, DJ Darian, good morning to all the listeners, good to be back and good to have the opportunity to chat with you. In terms of Warrior Winches, the brand is relatively new to North America, but it's not a new brand. We, the company and the brand was established 20 years ago, uh, in the uk, uh expanded into to wider Europe and 20 years ago the, the, the winch landscape was very, very different. Uh, it was certainly new. It was dominated by two or three big us brands, uh, very expensive, um, with a very little choice. So we felt as a company there was an opportunity in the market to to bring in a our own branded product that we could develop, high quality but with competitive price. So that's what we did 20 years ago and then, truthfully, for 20 years we've just been involved in the product, trying to make it better and better and better.

Jeff:

Our competitors, of course, have tried to evolve their products. Some guys have done really good jobs. So we don't worry about that. We appreciate the competition and we just try and do it better. But, as we'll talk about later, but price it more competitively to make it, you know, make these products more available to the general public, for both the hobby and for professional use. So, yeah, it's a 20-year-old journey, so relatively new to the US and North America, but not new to the wind industry. So that's what brings us into North America. We've been involved in North America for now for a couple of years, and we're just about starting to make our name, thanks to yourself, Darian, trying our products, and that's how we feel. That basically build a brand, people try it, they like it, you talk about it and tell the next guy. So that's very much what we're all about.

Darian:

Jeff, I know we've got a tow owner right here in our own area. That's Steve Will senior. He's owns one of the the operations here in our state a little over 82 plus trucks and I know he told me in the past it has been a trusted brand for him as he's went through in the process and had to replace winches. That's been the go-to for him. So the great thing is we've got something coming up in the future where we're going to go out, take a look at what he's doing in the industry with the winches and get it right from the horse's mouth, because he has done nothing but brag on the product. So one thing I want to ask. The next thing is tell us about the type of winches that are offered. What sectors of the market you're serving?

Jeff:

Yeah, well, we've pretty much got something for all sectors. So let's split it. Let's split it into two. We've got the industrial, which typically is our larger capacity electric winches and our full hydraulic range, and then we've got sort of the more, uh, consumer ranges, we call it, which would be from the small atv winches up to um, rock crawler size through to basically um, four by four, uh, large, you know, off-road vehicles. So we, we, we basically identify our products through the warrior names. So they all have a range, if you like.

Jeff:

So, apart from on the industrial, we just basically we don't need that kind of marketing, so we just stick with model numbers. And the industrial just basically want a robust winch that does what it says. But on the consumer side, we basically have a range of ATVs from 2,500 lbs up to 6,000  lbs. And then we have the sort of 4x4, small 4x4 to larger 4x4, from 8,000 lbs up to 14,500lbs. But of course you can use some of the bigger winches, depending on your appetite for what you want to get involved in on the trail. So you could go up to twenty five thousand pound on the electric if need be.

Jeff:

And then on the hydraulic side, we have basically hydraulic winches that range from 8,000 lbs up to 88,000 lbs., so pretty much a winch for everything. But we don't have hundreds of models in each category. We don't think it's necessary. We just really try and keep the range. We try and have a model for each application and then we can keep it simple. That means we can carry stock, make sure we've got inventory of all our products and make sure the customer can get it when they need it. Fantastic, I love it. I love it.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

DJ yeah, before we take our first break I wanted to talk about when we come back from the break. We'll talk about some of the shows that we're going to show Warrior Winch but before the break, how has his experience, I know, at the Florida Tow Show? He loves America, you know he has that beautiful English accent, but he loves America, and that's what I love about Jeff. So, Jeff, tell us a little bit of how you think about our country.

Jeff:

Well, I do love America actually. I think it's an incredible country with an incredible range of people. So, as you know, we go to different events in different states. You know, the guys in Texas are different to the guys in Nashville, are different to the guys in Baltimore, are different to the guys in Florida, so I find that really, really appealing. But there is a common thing there All the people are very knowledgeable about the product, particularly in the industrial sector. They're all very committed individuals who pretty obviously work really hard in their profession and they're just really nice, polite people who it's good to have a chat with and learn about how we can help them solve any of their problems with our product. So, yeah, it's every opportunity I get to come and visit that great country and speak to the people who are in the industries that are going to use our product. Then I'm over there, some of our guys not myself, unfortunately, because of other commitments, but I think we've got guys over at Tennessee and Nashville in the next month or so.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

Well, I'm going to tell you, Darian, during the Florida Tow Show, I thoroughly enjoyed the way Jeff interchanges with everybody and people all over the United States show. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Jeff interchanges with everybody. People all over the United States, no matter up north of New York, that come to the shows and meet Jeff, all say the same thing I love his attitude and he is a wonderful human being. So with that, let's take a break and, listeners, we'll be right back after the break to tell you where you can see a warrior witch.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

Welcome back listeners. You know you're listening to the number one podcast Tow Professional On-The-Go Podcast. Jeff from Warrior Winch is our guest today and he's doing a phenomenal job. Please remember to listen and review. We are available on spotify, itunes, stitcher the number one in the united states iheart media, amazon or wherever you get your podcast. All right, Darian. Right before the break I told our listeners we're going to tell them a little bit about where they can see a Warrior Winx next couple of months.

Darian:

Well, man, I tell you, DJ, I'm excited about this one, but I'm going to have to put in a little bit of work. My Bronco Badlands stays in the woods, so we're going to have to wash out the nicks and crannies, get it polished up, but it's got the newest Gladiator winch on it. Thing is a gorgeous unit. I love it. Stand by it. And I tell you, when you're out there on the trail and sometimes I end up with my kid just trailing by herself You've got to have something like that. You don't want to get left out in the woods and with this it's trusted. So I will have it, um, at the mid Atlantic tow expo and Raleigh, north Carolina. Uh, that the uh towing and recovery professionals in North Carolina are putting on. That was a fantastic show last year. Kerry Fogg's done a great job and we'll have it at that show to showcase. And then I'll be a little tired and weary. I'm going to drive up to Ohio straight from there, clean it up in the parking lot. We'll do a full detail. Get it on the floor at the Ohio show. I'll be smiling, might be sweating a little bit, but I'll be representing. We'll have it on the show floor there with pamphlets and everything, just like in North Carolina, where you can come over take a look at the winch, see how it is. Because the neatest thing, DJ, if these, if our first responders, our tow owners, use these winches on their applications and like it. Hey, they can turn around and they can put this on their four-wheel drive truck. They can put this on their Jeep. They can put this Warrior Winch inside their race car trailer to load their cars up on the weekend inside their trailer. They can put it on their ATV for their fish camp or camping trips. They can have one once they see what's behind it. They can have one for every application. So that's the greatest thing about it.

Darian:

So I will be at those shows with it and then you can see my bald head again at the International Towing Hall of Fame Museum. I will be there with Graham Larson. Sonia will be there for the check presentation for Warrior Winch. What they're doing with the Survivor Fund is phenomenal. I know Jeff's going to want to talk about that in a little bit, but I'll be there for that presentation. We'll have the Warrior Winch on the front shined up again. So I'm going to have to hit Jeff up for some detail products. But we'll have it, signed up again sitting in the parking lot ready to go for the check, passing there for the Survivor Fund, for what they're doing for the museum, so they can see it there and then we will have it. It might be sitting in the parking lot at Chattanooga so you can see it there as well, but I'm really excited about it.

Darian:

I think a lot of folks will see, just from the ATV winches that they make, just from the 4x4 winches, you can see the quality that's built into it. And when you look over at the industrial applications from their hydraulic winches, the drum winches, it's unbelievable what goes into the product and the price point on it as well. So, DJ, that's the next thing I wanted to ask, Jeff the price point, and I know how this works. I was new in the market. There were two quality publications out there for many years. So you come in the market and you want folks to see the value of what you have. So you put a great rate out there and that's what I did with the publication. So, Jeff, let me ask you this these winches are top of the line, I know, when it comes to the four by four market for what a not even a mediocre winch sells for. Our consumers can buy a top of the line product here with Warrior Winch, but tell us the reasoning behind that for all Mark.

Jeff:

Yeah, thanks, Darian. Well, the pricing is probably a little bit more aggressive in the consumer market than the industrial market.

Jeff:

I mean industrial product is all about performance. So you know you've got to have the right components, the right components, the right testing, et cetera. But our consumer winches are not made that different. The similar standards are all tested et cetera. But the reason the consumer market in the USA the ATV, 4x4, rock crawling market is the most competitive market in the world.

Jeff:

There is a lot of competition there, a lot of different brands, some recognized, some not recognized. Some of the quality is really really poor. And then there are some guys who are generally making good quality winches and I like to think that Warrior Winches fits into the good quality winch bracket. But there's a lot of competition, there's a lot of choice and uh, we're a new brand in in the North American market. So if a customer is confronted with a choice and he wants to choose a warrior over product a and he's heard of product but a it may have some reviews. Who knows? You know it's very easy to uh manipulate reviews to give you, give you a five-star rating. There's so many different tools that can do that. So we've got to give the guy a reason to take a chance or to make that first purchase.

Jeff:

So we've chosen to make our winches very competitively priced to try and show that basically, for a better price you can get a winch made to a better quality with more features for a better price. And hopefully that's enough to convince enough people to try the Warrior brand. Get to know it, because we know 100%, when a person uses one of our winches they'll be happy with it, they'll be delighted with its performance and its quality, they'll tell the next guy, he'll tell the next guy, he'll tell the next guy. And you know we're patient, we're happy to grow slowly, so we stay in control of the quality and the supply and we feel we can do it by just basically um, enough people telling the next guy, who tells the next guy about the quality of our product. And that's why the quality and the performance and the aftercare service is so important to us, because we always want those people to who, uh, bought the product to have a positive experience and then they will tell the next guy. And that's pretty much our philosophy in North America.

Darian:

Well, it simply worked with me, Jeff, because I've told everybody about it at the car shows when I've stopped, and we've had the shows on the weekend, because it has been a saving grace. We had one trail with at least a 40-foot pine tree across the trail and it was very simple to clear the trail and move on. So a phenomenal product. Now let me ask you this I know this is a little bit more the technical side of the end, but can you tell our listeners what goes in to the industrial brands, what goes into those making those the strong quality that last them for years? What are they looking for in a winch and what have you built and has your company built into that winch to assure them of this?

Jeff:

No problem. I mean a lot of the principles we put onto our industrial winches we put on the ATV winch. So we basically have a bit of a. You know, we sell winches regularly through to the military in Europe and also we've sold through vehicle manufacturers indirectly to the military in North America. If we can make a winch that can be used in combat, then we can make a good ATV winch. It's the same principle basically.

Jeff:

So we kind of work our winches in reverse. We look at the application, we look at the problems within that application that the customer may have and we basically start and say how do we make a winch that is not going to exhibit those problems and will last for several thousand operations? You know, because in the industrial sector, particularly on a tow truck, you may use a winch every single day. So how do we make sure we've got a winch that can be used 365 days a year? Five years, that's the length of our warranty. Incidentally, I think we have the longest warranty of any any uh manufacturing in uh North America. Our industrial winches are five years, our consumer winches are seven years. So, uh, we stand by our products. So what we then do is we we say what are the components of what quality do we need to put into that winch to deliver that performance? So we'll get the components that are required, and cost at this point is not a consideration.

Jeff:

So we assemble the winch with the components in the design that we believe will meet the requirements of the customer without any problems and then we test it to that standard. So you know, we put some of the industrial winches through 1,000 cycles. So some of them are up to 5,000 cycles. So basically we'll test them 5,000 times continuously. Now, for one guy that might be 20 years use, for another guy it might be three years use, but on average it's it's between five and ten years use. And if the winch doesn't fail after it's tested several times, then it becomes a production product. Every one of our winches is tested before it leaves the factory 100, 100. So we know that all our winches are performing when they leave the factory. So we know that they will work the minute they're installed.

Jeff:

It doesn't mean we don't have problems. Everybody has problems. If you sell something that's got, you know it's mechanical, it's got multiple components, we have very few problems. But the important thing is, if you have a problem, then fix it quickly and get the customer back up and running. So that's pretty much so. We try and make almost you know, you know unbreakable products. They do break. We make sure that we respond and fix it very quickly so that the professionals can get back doing the job.

Darian:

I think that that's key, Jeff, 100%. I think a lot of companies rush to market, throw something out there and then what can happen is then you lose them on customer service. But when you've got a product that's tried, tested and over-tested and sent to you, you've got a bit of anxiety that's taken away because you know, hey, listen, I can take this unit, bolt it right to my truck and go to work and won't have to worry about that, and if something happens, it's only a phone call away. And that's what I've seen.

Darian:

It's a business that runs on family values and you know, one thing you've expressed to our listeners many times and I've seen it not only just in the podcast or I've seen it at the trade shows, I've seen it in the way you interact is it is a family business and it is your passion, and you certainly want to make sure that, at the end of the day, you're bringing every one of these guys back and you're putting a product on their truck that they can be proud of, and it's one that I certainly know you should be proud of because it's got tremendous reviews on the market. Well, DJ, let's do this, let's take another break and let's come back and get some more great knowledge from the president of Bimson Power and Warrior Winch, Jeff Bimson. We'll be back here in just a moment. Hang in there, listeners.

That comes right here to the podcast center and we will do our very best to get them on the next podcast. Now, before I turn it over to you, Darian, I want everyone to know yeah, Jeff, when you hear somebody say in America that DJ the Doctor said that Warrior Winch was like buying a Mercedes at a Chevrolet price and this is truly grassroots marketing marketing.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

So one man said how do you get so much value at this price? And I said well, the intention is it's a pure public relation gesture. You put a Warrior Winch on your trailer. You bring your ski boat up, you bring your low tow boat, you bring your 4x4 up on your trailer. Then, it's so good, you tell your neighbor. That's the reason why it's laid out this way. So you're getting a Mercedes at a Chevrolet price. All we want you to do is say thank you and tell your friends about it.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

So, Jeff, if you hear someone say that you can say DJ. You are a crazy man.

Darian:

All right, DJ, I want to touch on this because you know the biggest thing with anything when you're putting something on a vehicle that's making dollars out in the field, that you're counting on to not only support your business but support those employees that are there as well so that they can make the funds to be there. That comes down to not only a great product but service and aftercare to make sure that the product stays in, and I think a company that has nailed that 100% is Bimson Power with Warrior Winch. So, Jeff, I want to ask you about this. I want you to be able to expand a little bit on the service and aftercare that you're offering for the public, because it is phenomenal.

Jeff:

Yeah, well, the way we try and look after people goes back very much to our ethos of a company based on family values. So we see everything as a relationship. So you know, know, we have extremely good relationships with our manufacturers. We have both have good relationships with our customers. You know, we work with you guys. We have a great relationship. It's much more than just a business contract now and that's very much how we see all customers.

Jeff:

So I like to say you probably heard me say this before on on this podcast is we're big enough to deal with any size account, but small enough to still care about the end user. Yeah, and I don't want to speak ill of the competition, but many of them are part now of multinational companies and they've really lost sight of the guy who's buying the product, who's using it on the vehicle he may well be buying the vehicle. Who's buying the product he's using on the vehicle? He may well be buying a vehicle, but it's always got a winch on and to us that's the person that matters. And all our service is really particularly, you know, on the industrial sector is about making sure that the end user has got what he needs, so that that starts with A having a good product. Secondly, having this product in stock when the customer needs it. If you want to buy it, it's there within three days, not 26-week build time and you've got to try and scrape around to find something to operate the vehicle. Because we're also very much mindful that the winch is only one small component on that tow truck. It's just a means to get the job done, yeah, but it's probably one of the most important pieces on that tow truck because without it quite often the guy can't get the job done and that means that if he's on the road and it fails, that means he's put in danger because he, if he's on the road and it fails, that means he's put in danger because he has to stay on the road for longer. That's not what we want. Or if it fails and he can't do the job, then there's a loss of income. So we're very mindful of that.

Jeff:

All our service people understand that. They've been to the shows, They've met the end users. We want to know what's important to them. So the important thing is A a good product. B you've got it in stock. But, despite what anybody tells you, if you have a mechanical product, occasionally you will have a problem. There's no mechanical product with multiple components that's 100% perfect.

Jeff:

If anybody tells you that, then they're making it up. So what's important is if, in that very small percentage where there is a problem, we deal with that problem quickly. So we start off by giving them a really long warranty, again to demonstrate our faith in our product. Five years on, an industrial product is extremely long. Guys. You've been around that industry for long enough we know that the winches are not used as per the manual. The guys do what they've got to do to get the job done.

Jeff:

We know that, but I wouldn't expect anything else. So the important thing is, if we have a problem, the customer can contact somebody, they can put their point of view together. We can either provide the parts or provide a new product quickly and then the person can get back to earning a living because we will never lose sight of if the winch is down, then they can't earn a living and that's really important to us to make sure. But equally, on the consumer side it's not necessarily so critical, but you know it might be.

Jeff:

You, Darian, your winch is down, you plan the weekend away on your Bronco, you know, spending some time in the woods. You need the winch. So we also recognize that it's a working tool as well, even on the you know, on the leisure side. So because it's a working tool, we feel again we have a responsibility to look after that customer, keep them moving and keep them using and enjoying the benefits of our product. And that ethos runs through everybody, as I said, because we're big enough to cope with anything but small enough to make sure that message goes from the top through the middle to our customer service staff and they all believe the same thing and we all operate the same thing, particularly in North America, because I think the demands are even greater over there than they are in Europe.

Darian:

Well, DJ, I tell you, I want to say this, and, Jeff, I want to say this in a world of product makers that make products and just see an end user as a bag of funds, it's so fresh to see the companies out there that see everyone as an individual, that see the Tow Professional man or woman that's standing on the side of the road that has to count on that winch to get a recovery. That's 100 foot down an embankment and in bad conditions. Jeff sees the four by four owner that's out with a special needs child in the woods, riding, just having a good time, that has to count on that, making sure that they're able to get back and not stuck. Because I've looked at many places that said, oh, a tow truck's not going to make it back here. So that I feel, DJ, is the difference when you see companies that don't just see the barrel well, barrel full of money at the end of the line, when they see everybody as an individual person that's out there that needs to make it back to their family. That's the passion, that's the drive, that that is phenomenal and it just goes hand in hand with the product you make so unbelievable.

Darian:

Jeff, let me ask you this for our listeners? Where do they need to go to get more information on this? Let's tell them about the site.

Jeff:

The easiest place to get information on all our products is www.warriorwinches.com, which is our main website. You can buy on there. You can buy the whole range. You can get more information. If you need more information about anything, there's contact forms on there.

Jeff:

So, yeah, www.warriorwinches.com, yeah, have a look around. Hopefully you'll be impressed with what you see. And, as you said, all we're trying to do is be very competitive, get people to try the product, because we know they'll be happy with the product, and then just tell the next guy and we feel that we, we can build a real big future in north america and become a real big name over time. We're not in a rush, because we want to do things right just by basically people gaining confidence in our product, and to do that we have to be absolutely confident that we make a good product. Otherwise that whole strategy falls apart if you don't have a good product. So that's why we're supremely confident in our product quality, our performance and our after service to back that up. You know, I just ask the guys to try us and see what you think.

Darian:

Well, Jeff, I tell you I've got to say this. I'm 51 years old. I've been in publishing since I was 24 years old. I've been to trade shows throughout North America. I've never seen the owner of a winch company standing in a booth. And let me tell you, that's phenomenal. And if you go to these shows you go to Baltimore, you go to Florida the owner is standing right there and you can hear his passion, you can see the product, you can ask the questions. He's right there. So, 51 years, I've never seen one that I could talk to and put my concerns out there. I've always seen a snake oil salesman.

Darian:

So it's always good to see an owner standing in the booth that says hey, not only do I believe in the products, I'm here to tell you more about it and I'll let you see why I'm so passionate about it. And from one family man to another, I tell you it's great to see that behind a product and these are the people, listeners, that we make partnerships with A lot of people just want to sell a hole in a publication. Listen when we find quality people in this market that are here for the industry, that are here for the service, and that love this industry and want to give back to it. Hey, we're putting them with others and we're shaking hands, kissing babies and pointing them out. And this is one of them, right here Jeff Bimson, Warrior Winch, true family man that has a passion for a product and a love of our country and this industry. So if you've got an opportunity, take a look at them, go to warriorwinches.com.

Darian:

It's that simple. There's a contact page on here. You can send a message, ask any questions and they'll get right back with you and you won't believe what all they have. So, if you like it for your ATV, you can put it on your trailer. You can put it on your 4x4. You can stick one on your Jeep. You can stick one on your rollback, you can put one on your medium duty and if that's not enough, put one on your rotator. He's got an application for every one of them and every one of them are trusted. Whether an email or a phone call away, they're right there for you. Closing comments Jeff, before we leave.

Jeff:

I think DJ put his hand up there. He's got something to say there. There we go.

DJ, The Tow Doctor:

Hey, Jeff, this is from me To you. It's not a winch unless it's a Warrior Winch. And we, Darian and I, and Tow Professional Magazine and Tow Professional Podcast, we need to tell the whole World about Warrior Winch, and that's really how I feel. This is a great product. Our five-year warranty comes from a wonderful family and I am proud to do anything I can here in the States to help promote this wonderful product. So when we're out of show, you come and ask the doctor because my prescription is a warrior winch on every one of your vehicles. All right, Darian, I'll send it back to you. I just love the company and I love the people.

Darian:

Amen. You hit it right on the head, man. Great people. And I tell you, when you work with people like this, you don't work a day and you lie. I mean, my wife says I do it all, but as I tell her, hey, I've got a job where I get to call all my friends and somehow I get a check in the mail. It's phenomenal. But that's the industry we're in. It's filled with great, unbelievable people.

Darian:

Well, as always, I'd like to end the podcast with a prayer. I want to thank Jeff Bimson, president of Bimson Power, Warrior Winch, for being on the program today, Always an encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to the products and a passionate man about the product. But with any doubt, we just thank You for another day. We thank You for our great nation. We thank You for our great allies, the nations that work with us.
